As we were sitting down at a restaurant the other day, the server said. “Thank you, your server’s name is Sarah. She’ll be here in just a moment.”<\/p>\n
For some reason, the idea of knowing the server’s name before she showed up struck me as funny. I leaned across the table to the boys. “Hey, our waitress’s name is Sarah. Let’s all say ‘Hi Sarah!’ when she gets here. Okay?”<\/p>\n
They grinned. “Yeah!” and “Okay, Daddy!”<\/p>\n
Their momma rolled her eyes.<\/p>\n
It took Sarah a little while to get to us. We were in the middle of coloring when she showed up. Our 4-year old looked up as she arrived, and before she could say anything, he shouted “Hi Sarah!” with a big old grin.<\/p>\n
Sarah was, as you might imagine, quite surprised. She blushed and giggled. “Well, hello to you too. How are you?”<\/p>\n
He grinned. “Good. I’m four.”<\/p>\n
She laughed, took our drink orders, told us the soup of the day and started to walk away.<\/p>\n
“Wait! Wait!” Our six year old had just looked up from his coloring and was shouting at her to wait. <\/p>\n
She stopped and came back to our table. “Yes?”<\/p>\n
“What’s your name again?”<\/p>\n
