As we were\u00a0walking into\u00a0Publix the other day, I realized that we’d forgotten our grocery bags. Publix encourages people to bring their own cloth grocery bags to cut down on the use of plastic.<\/p>\n
“Hey,” I said. “I’m gonna run back and get the grocery bags.”<\/p>\n
“I’ll come with you!” my youngest son said.<\/p>\n
My wife was fine with that plan. She told us where she’d be,\u00a0then continued into the supermarket.<\/p>\n
My son and I ran to the car,\u00a0then\u00a0found ourselves facing a dilemma.<\/p>\n
“How many bags do you think we need?” I asked him.<\/p>\n
“Um, I don’t know.” He glanced back to the store. “What’s Mom buying?”<\/p>\n
“I don’t know, but I think this was just a quick stop. Let’s grab one big one.”<\/p>\n
“Okay!”<\/p>\n
He\u00a0grabbed the bag and ran back into the store.<\/p>\n
“Um,” I said, pausing. “Where did she say she was going to be?”<\/p>\n
“I’m not sure.”<\/p>\n
“Let’s try this way.”<\/p>\n
After an extended search, we found her in the produce aisle. Her shopping cart was already half full.\u00a0My son looked at it meaningfully, then looked at me, then at the bag.<\/p>\n
“Yeah, yeah,” \u00a0I said. “We need more.”<\/p>\n
My wife laughed and told us where she’d be next.<\/p>\n
We\u00a0ran back to the car, grabbed four more\u00a0bags,\u00a0and ran back inside.<\/p>\n
“Where did she say she was going to be?” I asked.<\/p>\n
He laughed. “You know,” he said. “One of us is going to have to start listening to Mom.”<\/p>\n
