When it comes to those aimed at the 2-5 year old set, they’re actually quite well done. Backyardigans and Little Einsteins both typically have pretty interesting little stories, given their target market.

There’s one, however, that creeps me out. The characters in Higgleytown Heroes are all modeled after the weirdest toys. Remember the Weebles? Well, these are shaped like those – basically egg shaped with the bottom flattened just enough that they can stand up. What’s weird is that they are made out of two molded plastic pieces that you can pull apart. They separate at the waist, and you can put things inside them.

For toys, this is just kind of strange. When you see it animated, however, it’s downright creepy. They’re constantly splitting themselves in two, pulling out something they need, and then putting themselves back together.

Well, the other day, the Little Einstein’s decided to jump on the bandwagon. The bad guy was a guy named “Catcheye” and he was animated like the Higgleytown Heroes. His “bad guy” power was that he could pull mean animals out of himself. His top half would float into the air, he’d reach down to pull an animal out of his bottom half, and then he’d reconnect.

I was getting dinner together while C was watching this particular episode. The first time the bad guy did his thing, C called out to me. “Daddy, daddy, look!”

I looked, but it was too late. He had already put himself back together ”What?”

“Catcheye! Catcheye! He pulled a wolf out of his privates!”

“Um, what?”

“He pulls mean animals out of his privates! That’s what he does? Isn’t that cool?”

Um…no. No, I don’t think so. That’s creepy. Not cool. Creepy.

Have you seen children’s cartoons lately?
