Believe it or not, C goes to swim lessons. The idea is to give the little guys some basic survival skills in the water – so if they fall in a pool or a lake or something, they have a shot at surviving until someone notices.<\/p>\n
Sounds grim, doesn’t it? Well, it is. But the lessons aren’t really too bad. He’s actually in "year 2". They last for 10 days straight (10 minutes a day). And after last year, he was surprisingly good in the pool. He could swim to the side and even flip on his back to float.<\/p>\n
But I digress. What’s important to know for this story is that he currently hates the lessons. He cries virtually the whole time and does whatever he can to stall and avoid them.<\/p>\n
Well this evening, he really surprised us. Before the lesson, he went "potty". This is important because we’re trying to potty train him – and we have to encourage him whenever he gets it right. So, he sits on the toilet (being surprisingly productive) for something like 5 minutes. It seems he’s done, so J goes to take him off and he says (I can hear him out in the lobby) "No! I’m not done yet." Then he starts…ah… producing<\/em> again, if you know what I mean. <\/p>\n He kept this up for over 10 minutes, somehow forcing his bowels into action every time we tried to take him off the toilet. Eventually, we had to just say "No. You’re done now" and take him to the lesson.<\/p>\n I have no idea what this will do to the potty training, or even what this means for the future.
