The boys and I watched White Christmas one evening during the week\u00a0leading up to\u00a0Christmas. I don\u2019t know if you remember White Christmas or not, but the opening scene ends with bombs dropping out of the sky.<\/p>\n
Nothing graphic or horrible happens, but the boys were petrified. They didn\u2019t know what was going on. I said that the explosions\u00a0were bombs – and then had to explain what bombs were.<\/p>\n
Whoops.<\/p>\n
Moving forward to the morning of Christmas Eve, I discovered C playing on the floor by the kitchen table. He had taken all the manger scene figures and arranged them around a train that was knocked over. While I watched, he lifted up a block, stood as tall as he could,\u00a0and dropped it near the train. \u201cBoom! Crash! Boom!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cBombs! They\u2019re bombs, daddy!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOh.\u201d I went back to making breakfast, and then realized what was happening. \u201cHey, wait a minute! Don\u2019t bomb baby Jesus. We\u2019ve got to keep him safe.\u201d<\/p>\n
He looked down at the figures, considering, and then\u00a0shook his head.\u00a0\u201dBut they\u2019re bombs!\u201d He dropped another block. \u201cBoom!\u201d<\/p>\n
I moved in for the rescue. \u201cOkay, let\u2019s just move baby Jesus up to the table to keep him out of the way.\u201d I picked the little plastic figure up and placed it on the table.<\/p>\n
He looked at me for a second and then reached up and pushed it so it fell off the table, bounced once on the chair, and landed next to the toppled train. \u201cOh no!\u201d He shouted. \u201cA bomb hit up there! He fell all the way down! Oh no!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOkay,\u201d I said, rescuing the little plastic infant a second time. \u201cNew rule: No bombing baby Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n
