The kids came in the other day, excited about a game of football they’d played with the neighbors.<\/p>\n
“It was a great game,” my oldest said. “Really close, but we won.”<\/p>\n
“Yep,” his little brother chimed in. “The golden rule.”<\/p>\n
That last bit stumped me. I know the Golden Rule, of course, but I’ve never heard of it winning a football game.<\/p>\n
“You know,” his older brother said. “The golden rule.”<\/p>\n
“I really don’t.” I said. “How did ‘do unto others as you’d have them do unto you’ help?”<\/p>\n
“Come on, Dad!” he said, exasperated.<\/p>\n
“Okay. Let’s pretend I have no idea what you’re talking about. What’s the golden rule?”<\/p>\n
My two boys exchanged one of those how-can-our-dad-be-so-stupid \u00a0looks, then my oldest answered me. “Whoever scores the last touchdown wins.”<\/p>\n
