The boys and I have been watching “Batman: The Brave and The Bold” a lot lately. It’s a fun take on Batman, with none of the edgy darkness that infect so many incarnations of Batman have. Instead, it’s pure campy comic fun.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, we encountered a familiar scene. Batman had just been tied up in a death trap, and the villain was delivering his diabolical monologue.<\/p>\n
“Why did they tie him up again?” my youngest said. “It doesn’t make any sense. He was unconscious!”<\/p>\n
“I know, right?” his brother said. “Just shoot him.”<\/p>\n
“They can’t,” I said.<\/p>\n
“Why not?”<\/p>\n
“Because he’s Batman.”<\/p>\n
They both looked at me like I’d lost my mind. “Of course they can – ”<\/p>\n
“No,” I interrupted. “He’s Batman.”<\/p>\n
My oldest son paused the show. “He was asleep<\/em>. Anyone can shoot someone when they’re – ”<\/p>\n “No they can’t. He’s Batman.”<\/p>\n “Stop saying that,” his little brother said. “It doesn’t – ”<\/p>\n “Yes it does.” I said. “He’s Batman. You can’t shoot Batman in his sleep.”<\/p>\n “Why not?”<\/p>\n “Cause,” I said, pausing for effect. “He’s Batman.”<\/p>\n “AAAAH!
