Getting back in the world

It’s been a couple years since I was published, either as a writer or as a game designer. This quiet period hasn’t been due to any sort of writer’s block or lack of desire. It’s simply been a fact of life. Family comes first, and when family health issues arise, sometimes we have to scale back.

In my case, I had to scale back quite heavily. I stepped away from publishing Games for Educators, stopped going to game conventions to license my games, stopped pitching new writing projects, and dropped all my web site development clients. During that time, I also lost my agent.

What I didn’t do was stop. I didn’t stop writing, and I didn’t stop designing games.

So now, here I am.

Life is somewhat back to normal. My family is closer than ever, both my kids are in high school, and I’m back in the working world.

Now, I’m ready to get back into the real world. It’s time to re-launch my writing career.

The first time around, I started with a newspaper column. There aren’t too many of those left anymore, so this time I’m starting with some online writing. You can find my first story at Curious Fiction. It’s a reprint of a story published in Of Dice and Pen, but that’s just to give me a little cushion.

I’m back to writing game reviews, also, and am starting the process of finding a new agent.

The last few years have been a long and character-building journey to places both sad and surprising. Now, it’s time for me to get back in the world.

I hope to see you there!
